Bordeaux Mission

Feeling the light breeze on my face, I looked out at the water. The edges of the moving water between the feet of the bridge curled into little whirlpools here and there. I tried to drag up all the rusty memories of my former life in Orem, back when everything was so much simpler. I was so faithful then, what had happened to me?

Picturing my home and my family, my youth and my old ward, I started to feel like a good missionary again. I kept all of these pleasant images in my mind until it was time to go get Nick and go to my interview with the Mission President.

When it was my turn, the Mission President shook my hand and started asking me all of the familiar temple recommend questions:

Do you believe in God, the Eternal Father, in his son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost; and do you have a firm testimony of the restored gospel?

Of course.

Do you sustain the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as the prophet, seer, and revelator; and do you recognize him as the only person on Earth authorized to exercise all priesthood keys?

Of course.

Do you sustain the other General Authorities and the local authorities of the Church?

Yeah, essentially.

Do you live the law of chastity?

Other people have probably done it better, but considering what I'd given up, I felt justified in answering in the affirmative.

EXMORMON

Is there anything in your conduct relating to members of your family that is not in harmony with the teachings of the Church?

I hadn't even seen my family in two years, and that was the way the Church wanted it...

Do you affiliate with any group or individual whose teachings or practices are contrary to or oppose those accepted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or do you sympathize with the precepts of any such group or individual?

That was a bit of a sticky one... I only sympathized with her in as much as I wanted to bring her to the light, not with her 'precepts' so I guessed I was okay to answer 'no'. Besides, everyone knows that question is just to weed out people who sympathize with the polygamist groups, not people who associate with random individual sinners.

Do you earnestly strive to do your duty to the Church; to attend your sacrament, priesthood, and other meetings; and obey the rules, laws, and commandments of the gospel?

Yes, to the best of my limited ability.

Are you honest in your dealings with your fellow men?

I try to be.

Are you a full-tithe payer?

Obviously.

Do you keep the Word of Wisdom?

Yes, of course.
