"That would be so cool if you shaved off all of the hair on exactly half of your head," said Lavyrne.
"It would be cool because it's me and not you," I said laughing.
"Hey, you're the one who's always on about the conformity here," Cindy pointed out.
"I know how to cut hair, and I have all the equipment in my room," said Amy, ever helpful.
I was understandably hesitant, but the idea kind of intrigued me.
On the following hand, the non-trading one, by chance I was dealt an exceptional set of cards. It was almost all hearts, both very high and very low, which would allow me to easily avoid getting any points (and of course the goal of the game is to avoid getting points), but at the same time it might allow me to get all of the points, that is to "shoot the moon", which would give every single other player the double of all of the points in the round. I had never shot the moon before, but this time I was tempted to go for it.
I was normally a very conservative player, so it was difficult for me to stay calm to avoid tipping everyone off as to what I was up to. At first nobody noticed. They continued chatting as usual, April absently giving Lavyrne a foot-rub as some of the girls sometimes liked to do for each other. It became clear pretty quickly what I was doing, though, given the cards that I was playing.
About midway through the round, I realized that I had almost all the cards that it took to ensure that I could take all of the points, but that Wendy had one card that allowed her the choice of possibly taking a Queen of Spades -- a huge number of points -- or of leaving it to me. She realized this as well, and agreed to drop the card at the right moment provided that I went through with getting the lovely haircut that the girls had planned for me.
