EXMORMON
"Are you really sure that it was mostly his idea?" I asked. From what little I had overheard of her conversation the other day, she had seemed pretty enthusiastic about it.
"Obviously you can never be sure," replied Mindy, "but that's the way it usually goes. A girl wants a boyfriend so badly that when she finds one she usually goes along with what he says, just to please him. And that means that a lot of times girls let themselves get into situations where they can get taken advantage of. Like they were talking about in that 'Sexual Purity' lesson."
"You were in the sexual purity class?" I asked.
"I sat in on one of the sessions," Mindy said, "and it's really true that part at the end about how things just happen when you let yourself get into a bad situation. My only complaint was that in the story the teacher just assumed that the blame should be shared equally by the boy and the girl, when that isn't always the case."
"But it must be that sometimes the girl is just as willing as the boy, or even more, don't you think?" I asked. I couldn't help but think about how if I got into a "bad situation" with Y, I would hardly be an unwilling participant.
"Maybe," Mindy replied, "but really it's almost always the boy. After all, because of the way hormones work, the boy wants it more. And the girl has more to lose because she could get pregnant."
I had to agree with that last bit at least about pregnancy. If the couple used a condom of course there would be no problem, or at least a lot less risk of one. But how could you possibly have a condom with you unless you were planning to have sex? Obviously you couldn't set off on a date with the intention of committing a grave sin. So in fact when push comes to shove, a lot of those stories like the one the sexual purity teacher told us probably ended with the girl refusing, or at least trying to. And if fornication is already the worst you can possibly commit short of murder, how much worse could that make it in the guy's mind if the girl wasn't one hundred percent willing at the last minute?
